Noah Cyrus Admits She Didn't Think She'd Make It To Her 21st Birthday

Noah Cyrus got candid about her battles with depression and anxiety in an Instagram post this week.

The 20-year-old “July” singer admitted to her fans that she wasn’t sure she’d actually make it to see her 21st birthday, which happens on January 8.

“putting this ep out and going on tour during one of the most depressive times in my life was so hard,” she wrote, in reference to her EP Good Cry, which was released two years ago. “every day felt like lifting 100lb weights just to get out of bed. the ache in my chest from the pain felt unbearable..”

Noah added that “at 18 i didn’t think i was going to be here for a 20th birthday soon to be 21. they felt 1000 years away. it seems impossible… i was so sad. so hurt. and so scared.”

She continued, “thank you to everyone that’s been by my side during all of my progression and the times where it felt like i was regressing.”

Noah also asked her fans to be patient while she works on new music and works on her mental health at the same time.

“every day is work when it comes to your mental health and personal battles. not every day is going to be hell and not every day is going to be perfect. i’m still figuring that out,” Noah added. “thank you for understanding how growing up so publicly was hard on me.. thank you for your support and continuing to grow with me.”

Noah Cyrus Says Being Miley Cyrus's Younger Sister Stripped Her Of Her Identity

Noah Cyrus is getting more candid about how she felt growing up as Miley Cyrus‘s younger sister in the industry.

The -year-old singer spoke with Apple Music while promoting her new music, and mentioned just how Miley‘s fans and press surrounding her older sister would only ask her about Miley, instead of herself.

“It wouldn’t be a question, it’d be a statement when they came up to me,” she recalled. “Hannah Montana came out in 2006 or 2007. So that up until I made my own name, which was the reasoning why…and it really stripped me of my identity as a little kid.”

“That’s what it felt like. Because it felt like no one gives a…about me, myself,” Noah adds.

Noah continued on, “No one would choose to be called somebody else’s little sister and I used this…So it’s like when you’re seeing somebody and you’re like, ‘Oh, you’re so and so’s brother, right?’ But you know who they are. You’ve been talking to them already.”

“There’s a difference. It’s not, ‘I know you, but aren’t you also so and so’s little brother?” It would be, ‘You’re Miley Cyrus’ little sister. You’re Hannah Montana’s little sister.’

Over the weekend, Noah opened up about the lyrics to one of her new songs, and elaborated about why is was unbearable growing up in Miley‘s shadow.

Noah Cyrus Admits It Was 'Unbearable' Growing Up in Sister Miley's Shadow

Noah Cyrus is addressing lyrics in her new song “Young & Sad.”

On the track, the 20-year-old star sings, “My sister’s like sunshine, bringing good light wherever she’ll go/ and I was born to rain clouds, blessed in her shadows.”

Noah then took to her Instagram Live to elaborate on the lyrics, admitting she struggled growing up as Miley Cyrus‘ younger sister.

“I think just the message in the second verse, being born in the family I was in, everyone gave me such a hard time for having a hard time being Miley’s little sister,” Noah explained. “But you know, I always felt like I was that person that no one gave a s–t about due to what people said to me online.”

Noah continued: “It was absolutely unbearable. And that’s why I write, ‘My sister’s like sunshine, bringing good light wherever she’ll go/and I was born to rain clouds, blessed in her shadows.’ Because, that’s why everybody always says to me, that no matter what, I was going to be in that shadow.”

Noah admitted that she “always believed” she would only stay in Miley’s shadow, and she had a very hard time overcoming that thought.

“That was something I heard my whole life, every single day, my whole life. It was either that or that I wasn’t enough in some way, whether it was the way I look or the way I am. Like I said the other day, sometimes I feel like I don’t even breathe right sometimes,” Noah explained.

“Basically, that is what the song is about, and I just wanted to open up about that once and for all, because that’s been a big part of my life, and I probably won’t talk about it anymore. I just wanted to put it out,” Noah continued.

“Everybody always says you’re giving the people power by seeing it, but I can’t control seeing it,” Noah tearfully added. “You guys are young, you know the internet. It’s been really tough on me, so that song is just pretty tough to get through.”

Noah Cyrus Reunites with Lil Xan, Over a Year After Messy Split

It looks like Noah Cyrus is on good terms with her ex-boyfriend Lil Xan!

The 20-year-old singer was spotted riding in the passenger seat while Lil Xan, 23, drove them around in a Mercedes G-Wagon on Friday afternoon (April 3) in Los Angeles.

A white dog was seen peeking out of the window in the back seat of the car.

Seeing as Los Angeles and the full state of California is currently under a stay-at-home order, it’s likely that Noah and Lil Xan are quarantining together.

Back in September 2018, Noah and Lil Xan had a very public breakup in which he accused her of cheating. She later said that their relationship was a “mistake.”

Noah Cyrus Sends Message with New Single 'I Got So High That I Saw Jesus' - Video, Lyrics & Download!

Noah Cyrus has returned with a country-tinged new single called “I Got So High That I Saw Jesus“!

“Wrote this song with my best bud PJ @thiefofficial months ago but it has taken on a number of other messages, now more than ever,” the 20-year-old singer captioned with her Instagram post. “We all need to come and stay together and support one another.. stay safe, stay healthy, stay positive. It’s all gonna be ok 🖤”

In an official statement for the song, Noah said: “Religion or spirituality can mean many different things to many different people. This song is not about or for one religion or belief system. Jesus basically represents a greater understanding and knowledge that everything has its purpose and everything will work itself out the way it’s supposed to,” she said. “It will be OK, so long as we are guided by compassion and community. Both are needed more than ever right now.”

Noah continues, “I was born and raised Christian with strong beliefs and still hold those values. I was smoking weed one night, and had this epiphany, then wrote the song, hence the title. I hope this song resonates with people, especially with all that is going on in the world right now. Humans have evolved in so many beautiful ways, but we’ve also gotten so out of touch with the world, and each other. We’ve all lost sight of so many of the simplest things. As PJ, who I wrote the song with put it: it’s about extensional dread. What I love about the song is the multiple meanings it holds and how it will effect and each and every listener differently.”
