The 38-year-old actress, who starred in the original 1999 film, confirmed the exciting news on Instagram.
“#throwbackthursday (a bit early in Los Angeles) this picture was taken on the eve of production on the original #cruelintentions. Its me #rogerkumble (director) and #nealmoritz (exec producer) and the other is a picture of us now on the eve of production on the new #cruelintentions.”
SMG continued, “That’s right ‘everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way’ #kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv) on the new #Crueltv”
The upcoming Cruel Intentions follow-up series has been given a pilot order by NBC, which makes it one step closer to hitting the air!
The series will follow the “beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the film) as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her brother, who was the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Philllipe in the movie) and Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon in the movie). Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.”
It is not known right now if any of the movie’s original stars, including Selma Blair, will return for the series. They do remain close friends and the ladies all attended the unauthorized musical parody of the movie at Los Angeles’ Rockwell club last May!
Sarah Michelle Gellar is all smiles while posing for photographs backstage at AOL Studios on Thursday (December 17) in New York City.
The 38-year-old actress sat down to tape an AOL Build session where she talked about her brand new culinary lifestyle brand called Foodstirs, which offers better quality, convenient and delicious products that help families create meaningful experiences in the kitchen.
“It’s not an endorsement. It’s my company,” Sarah told E! News. “We’ve been here from the beginning, testing recipes, creating. I have my food handler’s license. I pack the boxes! This has been blood, sweat and tears—a lot of tears—to make this happen. But I knew if we didn’t do this someone else would.”
