Cate Blanchett Boards James Gray's New Movie With Anne Hathaway, Robert De Niro & More

Cate Blanchett has lined up another movie to star in alongside Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.

Deadline reports that the three actors will join Oscar Isaac and Donald Sutherland in James Gray‘s followup movie to Ad Astra, called Armageddon Time.

The movie is described as “a big-hearted coming-of-age story that explores friendship and loyalty against the backdrop of an America poised to elect Ronald Reagan as president.”

James also says that it’s based on his childhood memories.

“Every film you make is different, but I’m trying to do something that is the opposite of the vast, lonely and dark void of the movie I just directed,” he shared. “I’m anxious to make something that is very much about people, about human emotions and interactions between people, and I want it to be filled with warmth and tenderness.”

James went on, “In some sense, yes it’s about my childhood, but an illustration of familial love really on every level. I’m of the belief that most people do their best and that they try their best under difficult circumstances and in some sense that’s a beautiful thing and very moving to me.”

Cate also lined up three other movies to star in while quarantining at home during the pandemic. Check them out here!

“I had a bit of a chainsaw accident yesterday, which sounds very, very exciting, but it wasn’t,” she revealed, adding that she is “fine,” “apart from the little nick to my head.”

“Be very careful with that chainsaw. You’ve got a very famous head. I don’t think people want to see any nicks taken out of it,” responded Julia Gillard.

Cate then amusingly promised to “keep it on my shoulders.”

She and her family have been on lockdown in England amid the pandemic, and she’s been homeschooling her sons: Dashiell, 18, Roman, 16, and Ignatius, 12, and her daughter, Edith, 5.

Cate just previously worked with Eli in 2018′s The House With a Clock in Its Walls.

She is set to star as Lilith, “a siren and legendary thief equipped with magical skills.”

“I’m so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands. We had the most incredible collaboration together on The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and I believe there’s nothing she can’t do. From drama to comedy and now action, Cate makes every scene sing. Working with her is truly a director’s dream come true, and I feel so fortunate that I get to do it again on an even bigger scale. Everyone brings their A-game to work with Cate, and I know together we’re going to create another iconic character in her already storied career,” Eli said.

Borderlands is based on the bestselling PC and console gaming franchise, which has sold over 57 million units worldwide.

“For me it was super quick,” she said of her experience filming on set.

“There’s not too many chicks in the Tolkien universe. I loved it so much and I did say to Peter and [co-producer and co-writer] Fran [Walsh], they were doing a banquet scene with a whole lot of dwarves. I always wanted to play the bearded lady, so I asked them, ‘Could I be your hairy wife woman when you pan across the banquet table of dwarves?’ Of course I couldn’t because the timing shifted. But it takes them forever. For me, Galadriel it was just three weeks,” she said.

Cate first played Galadriel in 2001′s The Fellowship of the Ring, and is one of the only actors to be included in every Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie.

Despite the current shutdown, Cate just boarded two new upcoming films. Find out what she’s planning to star in…
