Eric Dane Says 'McSteamy' Nickname is Tiring, But Not Upsetting

Eric Dane doesn’t mind if you call him his Grey’s Anatomy nickname McSteamy, because he’s been called a lot of worse things!

The 44-year-old actor opened up about his famous role during a Build Series interview on Tuesday (August 1) in New York City.

“I’ve been called a lot worse,” Eric said. “And it never did anything bad for me, that nickname, so I don’t mind it… It’s not what I’m doing now, so it does get a little tiring, but it’s not something that really upsets me.”

Eric is currently promoting his role in The Last Ship.

Eric Dane on Battling Depression: It 'Just Hit Me Like a Truck'

While stopping by the Today show on Monday (July 31) in New York City, Eric revealed that he is thankfully feeling much better now.

“I took some time off – I was dealing with some depression, which was kind of odd to me,” he said. “I felt very conflicted about it because I didn’t really feel like I had anything to be depressed about.”

“Now I take a medication called Pristiq, which I thought just sounded like a good mood,” Eric added. “And the depression is gone.”

“That was a scary thing, when you wake up and you’re like, ‘I don’t want to get out of bed,’” he continued. “I was seeing these doctors thinking that there was something physically wrong with me, because I’d never felt like that. … I mean, I’d dealt with depression throughout my life, but it was always manageable. I just felt like, you know, everybody kind of feels a little blue. But this just hit me like a truck. I had to take some time off – I went away, I took care of it, and I’m feeling great.”

Season four of The Last Ship is set to premiere on August 20 on TNT. Watch the trailer here!

Eric Dane Gives 'No Fux About' Shonda Rhimes' Opinion of Trump Scandal, She Responds

While both Eric Dane and Shonda Rhimes seem to agree in their distaste for Donald Trump and his lewd comments about women, they don’t see eye to eye on one point.

The Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal creator tweeted that having wives or daughters is not the only reason to condone Trump‘s actions.

“Men, stop with ‘we have wives, daughters’ as reason not to condone his actions. You don’t condone his acts becuz you know right from wrong,” she tweeted.

Eric, as a husband and father of daughters, did not agree with her statement.

“How bout this – f*ck @realDonaldTrump and I could give no fux about @shondarhimes opinion. My wife and 2 girls. He needs to b btch slapped,” he tweeted.

Shonda, who arguably gave Eric his biggest break with the role of Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, tweeted back saying, “um?”
