Javier Bardem's Amazon Series Scrapped for This Reason

Javier Bardem‘s upcoming miniseries on Amazon is not moving forward.

The 51-year-old actor was set to star in Cortés y Moctezuma, a project co-produced by Amazon Studios and Amblin Television, but the companies have announced they have scrapped the show because of the ongoing health pandemic.

“Due to the production constraints created by the COVID-19 global pandemic, Amazon Studios and Amblin Partners are unable to move forward with production on our Cortés y Moctezuma series,” the two companies said in a statement via THR. “In the current climate, there is unfortunately no way to remount the production in the near future to achieve the scale and scope that was intended and that the series deserves.”

Javier was supposed to star in the Spanish-language drama alongside Tenoch Huerta and Yoshira Escarrega. Cortés y Moctezuma was written by Steve Zaillian, who would have also produced the series with Javier, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Diego Luna.

“We have nothing but admiration and respect for Javier, Tenoch, Yoshira, Gael, Diego, Steve Zaillian, and the entire cast and crew of the series and hope we can work together again in the future,” the statement continued.

Javier Bardem Defends Johnny Depp Against Amber Heard's Allegations: He's Trapped in Lies of 'Toxic Beings'

Javier Bardem is defending his Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales co-star Johnny Depp against Amber Heard‘s allegations.

The Oscar-winning actor filed a declaration in the defamation case that Johnny is pursuing against Amber, who has accused him of domestic abuse.

”I love Johnny. He has always been a true gentleman and an extremely generous and caring friend to my family and myself,” Javier wrote in his statement (obtained by the Blast). “On top of that, I’ve had the gift of working with him twice and have experienced his respectful attitude towards every single member of the crew alongside his unique and hilarious sense of humor. I stand by Johnny because I have always seen and felt a true caring and loving man in him … an extraordinary and unique artist who has listened to anyone who needed his help.”

He continued, “I not only love Johnny but respect him deeply and I thank him for being the free and careless little boy he is in his art and the mature and loving man he is in the lives of others, always there when we need him.”

“I love Johnny because he is a good human being, trapped in the lies and manipulations of toxic beings and yet smiling and loving us all in spite of it. How? Through his music, through his acting, through his silence. This means a lot. Thank you, Johnny. Millions of others like me love you deeply,” he added.

Javier‘s wife Penelope Cruz also spoke out about Johnny Depp’s defamation case – see how she reacted to Amber Heard‘s allegations.
