Did Maria Sharapova chop off her long locks?!

The 24-year-old tennis champ posted pics of a shorter ‘do on her Facebook page, causing a flurry with more than 8,000 comments and almost 32,000 likes.

But JustJared.com can exclusively reveal that the short hair was … just a wig!

“I posted the pics from the photo shoot and the story took off,” Maria tells us. “I love the short hair look but it doesn’t work with my lifestyle.”

FYI: Maria turns 25 this Thursday (April 19). Happy early birthday!!!

Maria Sharapova is white hot at the TAG Heuer‘s Formula 1 race on Saturday (March 3) in New York City.

The 24-year-old Russian tennis player wore an Oscar de la Renta dress from the designer’s fall collection, a Formula 1 Steel & Ceramic TAG Heuer watch, and Zanotti shoes.

Maria Sharapova arrives in style for the 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar Party held at Sunset Tower on Sunday (February 26) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 24-year-old tennis champ wore Alexander McQueen and accessorized with a glittery Jennifer Behr headband and a David Yurman ring.

Also pictured inside are Venus and Serena Williams, both of whom wore Christiane King.

Maria Sharapova makes the rounds at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Tuesday (February 14) at The Lincoln Center in New York City.

The 24-year-old Russian tennis champ attended the Vera Wang Fall 2012 presentation, where she sat in the front row next to Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Viola Davis.

Maria paired a Carven top with a rag & bone skirt, Jason Wu coat, Tag Heuer watch, and Cole Haan shoes.

Maria also hit the Rodarte fashion show wearing a sleeveless purple dress where she chatted with pint-sized fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson of Style Rookie before designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy showed their fall collection.

Dakota Fanning strikes a pose at the Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week held at the N.Y. State Armory on Monday (February 13) in New York City.

The 17-year-old actress was joined by the designer himself, Marc Jacobs, after the show.

Maria Sharapova goes mellow yellow during previews for the WTA Championships 2011 on Sunday (October 23) in Istanbul, Turkey.

At the draw ceremony, the 24-year-old Russian tennis champ paired a Max Mara dress with Giuseppe Zanotti footwear.

“I’m thrilled to be in Turkey, it’s one of my favorite places to visit,” Maria tells JustJared.com. “I’ve been here for a few days enjoying the culture, food, and visiting friends between practice and tournament preparation. Been Fantastic!”

Maria also posted the below picture on her Facebook and said, “The Turkish Chai cups are some of my favorite souvenirs from here…”

Maria Sharapova steps out in a custom Cynthia Rowley dress for a promotional event at Tiffany & Co.‘s Ginza flagship store on Saturday (September 24) in Tokyo, Japan.

The 24-year-old Russian tennis champ finished off her look with Cole Haan accessories and earrings and bracelets from Tiffany & Co.

“Enjoying my time in Tokyo, just a great city. Several blocks from my hotel is the most amazing little waffle shop, I am trying so hard to avoid it, but I think I will breakdown soon!!” Maria wrote on her Facebook page.

Maria is also in town for the Pan Pacific Open – on Monday, she defeated Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn to advance in the tournament!
