Madonna (in Chanel) joins director husband Guy Ritchie and actress pal Sharon Stone at the premiere of her new film, I Am Because We Are, at the Palais des Festivals during the 2008 Cannes Film Festival on Wendesday in Cannes, France.

I Am Because We Are is a documentary written, narrated and produced by Madonna. This movie documents the concern over the millions of orphans in the African country of Malawi who have lost parents and siblings to HIV and AIDS, many of whom live on the streets. The film also shows the efforts with Madonna’s charitable organization Raising Malawi in helping with improving their lives and conditions.

Beyonce was on hand last night to lend to support to amfAR, a foundation for AIDS research, along with amfAR’s Chairman of the Campaign for AIDS Research, Sharon Stone. Last night’s AmFAR Gala honored the work of Whoopi Goldberg and others for their vital and distinctive contributions to the global struggle against AIDS. The event was held at NYC’s Cipriani restaurant in Times Square.

Said Sharon Stone: “I’ve been doing it (her AIDS work) 11 years. I feel very emotional about it. I had a big crying breakdown in the tub an hour ago.” She also received the inaugural Roy London Award, which is named after her late acting coach.

Said Beyonce: “Young people need to have awareness of this disease.”

Rocky Balboa premiered in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles yesterday to a pretty spectacular guest list that included Sylvester Stallone (Rocky), Sharon Stone, Antonio Tarver (co-star and light heavy weight boxer of the film), actress Talia Shire (Balboa’s wife Adrian in the Rocky movies), actress Emmanuelle Chriqui, Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks), Milo Ventimiglia, Geraldine Hughes, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Burt Young, and Jennifer Flavin (real wife) and family.

Whew! That was quite a list of names! Anyway, I’m so excited for this movie to come out!

Back in February (yeah, I know, that’s a long time ago) Access Hollywood was invited onto the set of Rocky Balboa and they did a short segment on the film and the director.

Visually, this "Scanner" is no phantasmagoria, unlikely to inspire comparison to great animated head-trips of the ‘60s past. The film’s muted pallet of pastels, while immensely suited to bath soaps, is less dynamic as a filmic eye-grabber. While acknowledging the craftsmanship and creativity of the animation team, "A Scanner Darkly’s" colorings and shadings make the real-life characters look like wood carvings. — Hollywood Reporter

Cannes, France :: Actor Keanu Reeves, 41, was spotted with an unidentified female friend (girlfriend??) on the Croisette during The Cannes Film Festival yesterday.  Keanu grabbed lunch with said female friend and ran into actress Sharon Stone, 48. Keanu’s new, animated sci-fi fantasy, A Scanner Darkly, makes its official premiere at the 59th annual Cannes Film Festival later today and opens in theaters nationwide on July 7th.  More pictures in the gallery!
