'Pose' Season 3 Will Likely Look Different Because of COVID-19 Restrictions

The third season of the groundbreaking FX series Pose was in the middle of production when the COVID-19 pandemic shut things down.

Now, when things pick up again and the show is allowed to resume filming, you can expect the show to look a little different.

“‘Things like kissing — we will likely forgo those moments,” show creator Steven Canals said in a new interview with Variety. “The place on our show where the biggest impact will be felt will be the ball scenes: Those scenes have 125 to 150 background actors. That’s tricky, because that’s such an important and critical part of our show and the narrative. We’re just, only now, having conversations of ‘Is there a world where we forgo these things?’”

Those that watch the series will know that that ballroom scenes are an integral part of the show, so hopefully they’ll be able to work it into the program somehow!

The show’s star Billy Porter spoke up for the black LGBTQ+ community in a new video on Instagram.

Billy Porter Speaks Up For Black LGBTQ+ Community In Passionate Instagram Video

Billy Porter is raising his voice high in the Black Lives Matter movement, and is also calling them out for lack of support for Black LGBTQ lives.

“LGBTQ+ black folks are black people, too!” the Pose star shared in his new Instagram. “Our lives matter, too! So this is my response to those of y’all who don’t understand that: F— you! And, yes, I am cussing. It’s time for cussing.”

Billy referenced Iyanna Dior, a black trans woman who was attacked by a group of cisgender men while a group of black cisgender people did nothing.

“My basic human rights have been up for legislation every single day that I have had breath in my body from all sides—and by that I mean that the black community’s relationship with the LGBTQ+ community is appalling at best and eerily similar to that of white supremacists versus black folk,” Billy said. “Hear me, black people, and hear me well. I’m calling you out right here and right now. You cannot expect our demands of equality to be met with any real legislative policy and change when y’all turn around and inflict the same kind of hate and oppression on us.”

He went on, “The tragic reality here is that black trans, as well as gender non-conforming, women and men are being killed in the United States by cis black men to such a degree that it is nearly the worst emergency for trans women on the planet.”

“To all my homophobic and transphobic brothers and sisters, get your f—ing houses in order.”

Billy added that “as Black people, we risk our lives every time we leave our homes. As queer people of color that risk is doubled. We move about our days sucking it up, hiding our pain and terror from the world, trying to make ourselves small, so white people and straight people feel comfortable.”

“Our parents try to prepare us for the realities of this world: the fact that the playing field is not leveled, the laws that protect white people do not do the same for us, and that we have to be at least 10 times better at anything we choose to do in life to simply get in the rooms where things happen.”

Billy Porter Releases Politically Charged Single 'For What It's Worth'

Pose star Billy Porter just released his new single, a cover of Stephen Stills’ “For What It’s Worth,” as performed by Buffalo Springfield.

Here’s what the 50-year-old Grammy/Emmy/Tony winner shared:

On deciding his new single: :I wanted to have my art and my music matter, make a difference. I’ve always been a political person. I come from the generation where the music reflected what was going on in the world, in the day. The song was written and performed sort of during the Civil Rights Era, the Vietnam War, it was protest music and I wanted to have a hand in bringing that back and speaking truth directly to power.”

On reflecting during quarantine: “One of the heartening things that I’ve seen during the Coronavirus outbreak is how we’ve all banded together. Everyone doing their part, checking on each other, using technology to connect with one another. I think the messages in ‘For What It’s Worth’ are so relevant now. It’s a song about unifying and coming together to make a change.”

On leaning into the November 2020 Presidential elections: “While we’re all stuck at home, now is a great time to make sure you’re registered to vote. The election is comin,’ y’all. Let’s get ready and stay ready… I hope people are inspired to not give up, to continue to have hope, and to understand that the only way change comes is for the people to come together and demand it.”(Register to vote here.)

Last week, Billy appeared in the virtual Seder celebration to raise funds for the CDC Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

Billy Porter's Fairy Godmother in 'Cinderella' is Genderless

Billy Porter is opening up about his role in Sony’s Cinderella as the Fairy Godmother in a new interview.

Speaking with CBS News, the 50-year-old actor revealed that his role is actually genderless.

“It hit me when I was on set last week how profound it is that I am playing the fairy godmother, they call it the Fab G,” he shared in the video appearance.

Billy adds, “Magic has no gender. We are presenting this character as genderless, at least that’s how I’m playing it. And it’s really powerful.”

“This is a classic, this is a classic fairytale for a new generation. I think that the new generation is really ready. The kids are ready. It’s the grownups that are slowing stuff down.”

Cinderella, also starring Camila Cabello in the title role, is filming in London now.
