Chandra Wilson is spilling on her 23-year-old daughter Sarina‘s real-life medical mystery that inspired an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
The 47-year-old actress, who plays Dr. Miranda Bailey on the ABC series, directed the episode during season nine back in 2012 in order to to raise awareness about the illness.
Six years ago, Sarina experienced symptoms of vomiting, nausea, and abdominal pain.
“It presented itself for a really bad case of food poisoning,” Chandra said during an appearance on Good Morning America on Thursday (March 30). “It didn’t go away for four or five days, so because of that we went to the ER.”
“A month later, the exact same presentation happened and this was month after month after month for 10 months,” Chandra went on. “I started looking for patterns. When you are the parent of someone who is a chronic pain sufferer, you end up creating these binders for all of the hospital stays so you can keep track of every visit and any new thing that comes out.”
After almost a year, Sarina was diagnosed with cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS), and she has just recently started having episodes again.
