Kristin Chenoweth Tells the Story of Meeting Her Birth Mother

Kristin Chenoweth was adopted at birth and later in life she found her birth mother. Now, in a new interview for Katie Couric‘s YouTube channel, she’s telling the story about meeting her birth mom for the first time.

“No one knows this, but when I walked in the door, she said, ‘You’re that girl?!’” Kristin said.

“She had seen me on The Tonight Show ten years prior. Her uncle had said, ‘Lynn, there’s a girl on there that acts just like you,’” Kristin revealed. “She’s incredible. An incredible person. And when I met her she said, ‘Can you ever forgive me?’ And I said, ‘Forgive you? You gave me life. And my parents Junie and Jerry gave me a life. The chance at a life.’ And I’m so grateful for her.”

Kristin stars in the new Hallmark Channel movie A Christmas Love Story, which premieres tonight.

SPOILER ALERT – This post contains some spoilers for the Hallmark Channel movie A Christmas Love Story, so continue reading at your own risk!

Kristin Chenoweth has a personal connection to her new Hallmark Channel holiday movie A Christmas Love Story and she’s opening up about the touching story.

The Emmy and Tony-winning actress talked about a pivotal scene in the film while attending The Moms’ screening event on Friday morning (December 6) at Arena Cinelounge in Hollywood.

Without giving too many details away, there’s a scene in the new movie in which someone meets their birth mother for the very first time… which is something that Kristin, who was adopted, went through as well.

“That scene happened to me. I am adopted and I had this virtually same conversation with my birth mom,” Kristin said. “I remember [my birth mom] saying to me, ‘Can you ever forgive me?’ And I was like, ‘There’s nothing to forgive. You gave me such a great life. I got the right parents.’ Anyway, that scene is very special to me because we developed it around exactly what happened in my life.”

The event was hosted by The Moms’ Denise Albert in partnership with SeroVital. You can watch the full Q&A via the Facebook Live below!

Make sure to watch A Christmas Love Story when it premieres on Hallmark Channel on Saturday night (December 7) at 8/7c.
