In the past, the Gothams only celebrated independent films, but they have removed the requirement that all projects are made for under $35 million. Now, some of the contenders this year include big budget movies like Barbie.
The awards show also took away gendered acting categories, opting for an Outstanding Lead Performance category and an Outstanding Supporting Performance category with 10 nominees in each one.

The cast of May December is hard at work promoting the new Netflix movie now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over!
Natalie Portman, Charles Melton, and Julianne Moore attended a photo call for the film on Friday afternoon (November 17) at the Four Seasons Hotel at Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.
The three actors were joined by director Todd Haynes.
Here’s the synopsis: “Twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, a married couple (Moore, Melton) buckles under the pressure when an actress (Portman) arrives to do research for a film about their past.”

The two actors were joined by director Todd Haynes at Netflix’s May December Tastemaker Event at San Vicente Bungalows on (Tuesday) November 14 in Los Angeles.
The group posed for some photos and participated in a panel together.
Natalie Portman, who stars alongside Julianne and Charles, was not present at the event.
