Ryan Seacrest Defends 'Dick Clark' Producers After Mariah Carey's New Year's Eve Performance

Ryan Seacrest, who was center stage for much of the night as host of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2017, is speaking out about Mariah Carey‘s New Year’s Eve performance, where she claims she was sabotaged by producers.

“It is difficult to perform in Times Square,” Ryan said during his radio show today. “[Carey] knows what Times Square is about. It’s complicated. Imagine every single TV outlet in the world was there. So, there’s all kinds of technical things going on.”

“Things happen on live TV,” he continued. “If something goes wrong, it’s unfortunate for anybody….I know this team of producers. I’ve known these guys for years. I knew Dick Clark very, very well. This is a team that wants to do everything they can to accommodate any artist. They and we are in the business of wanting people to look good!”

“Believe me, tricky things, tough things that can happen, happen on live television,” Ryan said. “It’s just unfortunate that it comes to all of this, because it’s a night of celebration and a night of fun.”

Mariah‘s rep recently slammed Dick Clark producers again for the way the entire day and evening were handled.

Mariah Carey Discusses Her New Year's Eve Performance in New Interview

Mariah Carey just sat down for her first interview after her Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest performance which has gone viral.

Besides for a brief comment on social media, these are the first full statements made by Mariah since the performance.

“All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business. I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time,” Mariah said. Mariah‘s management has asserted that they believe the performance was sabotaged by producers.

Jenny McCarthy Slams Mariah Carey For Claiming Dick Clark Producers Sabotaged NYE Performance

Jenny McCarthy, who acted as one of the co-hosts of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest this year, is sticking up for her employer and slamming Mariah Carey over her now-viral performance.

“It’s completely unfair and bulls–t for [Mariah] to blame Dick Clark Productions,” Jenny said on her SiriusXM show. “I think Mariah was nervous as hell. I think she chose really tough songs to try to sing along with. I think ‘Emotions,’ that song, I mean her voice is not there anymore. I don’t think there is a problem with her inner ears. I just don’t. I think she used it as an excuse.”

Jenny said that “sympathy stopped, however, the moment she accused Dick Clark Productions of sabotaging her performance.”

“Now I do understand our egos of course want to blame everyone but itself for mistakes. If Dick Clark were alive today, I guarantee he would be on air right now fighting back. He’s not, so I’m going to … I have never seen a production company more supportive of their musical guests. So for her to defame them was so incredibly insulting for the group of people who work their balls off preparing and rehearsing,” Jenny continued.

“Mariah didn’t do a sound check. She did whatever you would call like a dance move rehearsal holding her gold microphone, and she stood off to the side of the stage while she had a stand-in do a sound check,” Jenny added.

Mariah‘s reps have fought back with a lengthy statement.

Mariah Carey's Rep Sets Record Straight on New Year's Eve Performance

Mariah Carey‘s manager Stella Bulochnikov has given an extensive interview disclosing what really went down on New Year’s Eve, and blasting the producers of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest for wanting a “viral moment at any expense.”

Mariah did a sound check, contrary to reports, Stella said (you can see photos of Mariah at sound check in the gallery below). “Not only did she not ditch rehearsal, we got to Times Square at 2:30. They weren’t ready for her until 3:20. We waited around for their stage manager. We had the stage from 3:20 to 3:50. She had a dance stand-in for the musical number. She sat on the side of the stage with her ear-pack and her in-ears and her microphone to make sure she could do the sound check. The most important thing to her was the sound. The sound was coming in choppy. She was assured it would work by the evening,” she told EW.

Josh Groban Apologizes for Tweet About Mariah Carey's NYE Performance

Josh Groban has deleted a tweet he wrote about Mariah Carey‘s failed performance on New Year’s Eve and he sent out an apology for his comment.

The 35-year-old singer tweeted minutes after the performance aired saying, “Any time one of the greatest voices of my generation lip syncs an angel loses its wings.”

Josh‘s tweet received a lot of backlash from Mariah‘s fans and he ended up deleting it.

“Deleted my tweets about a certain performance because it was made in humor but taken way more meanly than intended. Not out to diss artists,” he said.

Other celebs and tons of people on Twitter reacted to the performance on Saturday night and everyone seemed to be in shock over what happened.

Was Mariah Carey 'Sabotaged' on New Year's Eve? Producers Respond to Claims

Mariah Carey‘s team believes that she was “set up to fail” during her performance on New Year’s Eve 2017 and now the producers of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve are responding to the claims.

The entertainer’s manager Stella Bulochnikov, who is often seen on her docu-series Mariah’s World, spoke to Billboard about the performance, which went horribly wrong when Mariah couldn’t hear through her in-ear monitors.

“We told them [the stage managers] that the in-ears were not working 10 minutes before the performance,” Bulochnikov said in her statement (via THR). “They then changed the battery pack, and they were still not working on the frequency four minutes before the show. We let them know again, and they just kept counting her down and reassuring her that they will work as soon as they go live, which never happened — at which point she pulled them out but could not hear the music over the crowd.”

“After the show, I called [Dick Clark Productions'] Mark Shimmel and I said, ‘What the f–k happened?’ He said, ‘Let me call you back,’ then called me back and confirmed the in-ears were not working and asked if I would make a joint statement,” Stella added. “I said, ‘No way.’ I asked him to cut the West Coast feed. He said he could not do that. I asked him why would they want to run a performance with mechanical glitches unless they just want eyeballs at any expense … It’s not artist-friendly, especially when the artist cut her vacation short as a New Year’s Eve gift to them.”

Mariah Carey Says Technical Issues Disrupted New Year's Eve Performance

Mariah Carey says technical issues are to blame for her New Year’s Eve performance going terribly wrong.

A rep for the 46-year-old entertainer released a statement saying that technical difficulties disrupted her performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2017.

“Unfortunately there was nothing she could do to continue with the performance given the circumstances,” Mariah‘s spokeswoman Nicole Perna said Sunday (January 1).

During her performance on the show last night, Mariah‘s performance quickly went downhill when it appeared that she lost her place in her song while she was clearly attempting to lip-sync.

Mariah said she wasn’t able to hear the music playing so she wasn’t able to keep up with the song, so she tried to find her place, but instead did a little choreography before leaving the stage.
