The third season of Bridgerton is coming up soon, but fans of the book series will be curious about the change coming.

If you don’t know, the series, so far, has followed the exact same order as the Julia Quinn-written novels that they’re based on.

Seasons one and two followed the same trajectory as the book series with the first focusing on Daphne Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor) and the second following Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey). This would mean that season three of the Netflix series should be following Benedict Bridgerton (played by Luke Thompson). But, that is not the case.

EW asked showrunner Jess Bromnell, “A lot of people assumed that we would be going in book order and Benedict (Luke Thompson) would be season 3. What made everyone decide to skip ahead to [Penelope and Colin's romance] here?”

Jess responded, “Fair assumption, but we’ve spent two seasons really getting to know Pen and Colin. We’ve been watching Pen’s crush and seeing how oblivious Colin is to it. That’s a dynamic that you can only play out for so long before something has to change. This really felt like the right time to lean into what’s been set up with them.”

If you’ve watched the first two seasons, the tension between Penelope and Colin has been escalating, especially as season 2 progressed.

Jess continued, “On the Benedict side, he’s such a fun character and such a fan favorite that we are really excited to play with him for a little bit more and let him have more fun before he settles down.”

Season three will be split into two separate parts. Part 1 (consisting of four episodes) will be released on May 16 and the final four episodes will stream on June 13.

We’re less than a month away from the season three premiere of Bridgerton and the stars are already busy on a press tour!

Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan traveled down under to attend a launch event on Sunday (April 21) on the grounds of Milton Park Country House in Bowral, Australia.

The season three leads were joined at the event by writer Jess Brownell.

Season three is debuting soon with part 1, consisting of four episodes, being released on May 16 and the final four episodes becoming available on June 13.

In a recent interview, Luke explained how his intimate scenes with Nicola benefited from four years of friendship thanks to starring in the first two seasons together.

Luke Newton is reflecting on his more intimate scenes in the upcoming third season of Bridgerton.

If you don’t know, Luke stars as Colin Bridgerton and his character’s story will focus on his blossoming relationship with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlin).

Bustle asked Luke, “How did you prepare for the intimate scenes for this season?”

He responded, “I’m really grateful to have shared it with Nic. We always knew there’d be a point when [our characters] would have this beautiful love story. For previous cast members who led the show, they met each other at the start of the season, whereas Nic and I have developed our friendship over the last four years. We felt really safe, and we’ve got an amazing team of intimacy coordinators. It was so well-prepared that it just freed us up to be able to perform.”

But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.

If you don’t know, Netflix announced that hit show’s new season will debut in two parts this coming Spring. Part 1 (consisting of four episodes) will be released on May 16, the final four episodes will stream on June 13.

The cast of Bridgerton stepped out for a season three screening today!

In attendance were stars Luke Newton, Nicola Coughlan, Luke Thompson, Claudia Jessie, Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh and Martins Imhangbe, along with executive producer Shonda Rhimes and showrunner Jess Brownell. The event was held on Wednesday (February 14) in London, England.

Earlier in the day, Netflix released the season three episode titles and a first look clip at a tense moment between Penelope (Coughlin) and Colin (Newton).

Season three is debuting in two parts: with the first batch of episodes being released on May 16 and the second batch on June 13.

Two stars have exited Bridgerton after season 2 and they’re both big fan favorites!
