David Eigenberg Reveals the 'Chicago Fire' Plot He Requested, Talks His Future on Show & 'And Just Like That'

David Eigenberg opened up about two of his most recognizable roles during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor hit it big playing Steve in Sex and the City and its spinoff series And Just Like That… He took it even further after he was cast as first responder Christopher Hermann on Chicago Fire.

During his conversation with the outlet, David reacted to the evolution of Steve’s relationship with Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and the introduction of Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez). Was he surprised or upset about how his marriage evolved?

On the topic of Chicago Fire, David revealed a big plot point that he requested be added into the ongoing season. He also addressed his eventual finale on the show and his relationship with costars.

Every year, it feels like more and more stars exit Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med (aka, the One Chicago franchise).

Now, one of the showrunners is giving more insight into the decisions.

“Honestly, longevity is really just part of it,” Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman said during an interview with TVLine. “[In] storytelling and in terms of real life, 12 years is a long time and things need to change, just dynamic-wise. You want new characters and you want new dynamics.”

Andrea explained, “Actor-wise, 12 years is a long [time]. Nobody expects in TV [that] they’re going to be anywhere for 12 years, I can say that for sure, from all sides.”
