Nia Long Explains Why She's Never Married Her Longtime Love Ime Udoka

Nia Long is opening up about her relationship with former NBA player Ime Udoka and why they have never gotten married.

The 49-year-old Fatal Affair actress started dating Ime, 42, back in 2010 and they also welcomed a son named Kez in November 2011. They got engaged in 2015, but it doesn’t seem like they’ll be taking that next step anytime soon.

“I understand the religious aspect of marriage. That is beautiful and it’s fantastical and it’s dreamy and it’s every girl’s fantasy to have that moment. But I don’t know that I need that to feel like I’m in a partnership that’s working,” Nia told Essence.

Nia also told Essence back in 2012 that “marriage is not a priority” for her.

Recently, Nia opened up about the big Hollywood audition where she was discriminated against.

Nia Long Says She Too Was Discriminated Against During Her Audition For 'Charlie's Angels'

Thandie Newton wasn’t the only one to have a horrible audition process for 2000′s Charlie’s Angels movie, Nia Long did as well.

Speaking with Insider, the 49-year-old actress recalled going out for the same role of Alex Munday for the movie, which ultimately starred Lucy Liu in the role, opposite Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore.

Nia shared that her agent notified her that she wouldn’t be getting the part because she “looked too old” to star alongside Drew, although they are only four years apart.

“I was like, ‘What?’” she said. “I love Drew Barrymore, I think she’s amazing, but I think that was just a nice way to say you’re a little too Black. Personally, that’s what I think. Because if you notice there were no brown skin [actors]. I mean, honestly, I would have been the blackest thing in the film.”

Nia explained that “the feedback that I received from my agent was, ‘She just looked too old and sophisticated to be next to Drew Barrymore,’ and I’m thinking to myself, it’s an actor’s choice to walk in the room how they want to look, but it’s a director’s vision to help create and curate a character. So if you couldn’t see beyond the fact that I had on a blazer and a pair of jeans then that was clearly not the job and opportunity for me. So, no problem, I’ll keep it moving.”

Thandie made headlines earlier this month in a tell-all interview where she opened up about her own experience auditioning for the part, saying that she believed she was going to be objectified in the film and because of Amy Pascal‘s remarks.

Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson & Nia Long Debut 'The Banker' in Memphis

Anthony Mackie poses with Nia Long at the premiere of their new movie, The Banker, held at the National Civil Rights Museum on Monday night (March 2) in Memphis, Tenn.

The two actors were joined by co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Taylor Black, Xen Sams, Bill Kelly and Gralen Bryant Banks for the event.

Inspired by true events, The Banker centers on revolutionary businessmen Bernard Garrett (Mackie) and Joe Morris (Jackson), who devise an audacious and risky plan to take on the racist establishment of the 1960s by helping other African Americans pursue the American dream.

Along with Garrett’s wife Eunice (Long), they train a working class white man, Matt Steiner (Nicholas Hoult), to pose as the rich and privileged face of their burgeoning real estate and banking empire – while Garrett and Morris pose as a janitor and a chauffeur.

Their success ultimately draws the attention of the federal government, which threatens everything they have built.

The Banker will premiere in select theaters on Friday, March 6, with the film heading to Apple TV+ on March 20.

An Oscar Nominee Hit Nia Long's Car... & Now They're Friends!

Nia Long‘s car was sitting in the parking lot at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills when someone drove past and sideswiped the vehicle. The driver of the other car just so happened to be songwriter Diane Warren!

Diane says she was trying to find a place to leave her car for the valet when she accidentally clipped the side of Nia‘s Porsche.

“I hit a car,” she told THR. “I gave my info to the attendants with my insurance, drivers license and the phone number for a friend.”

Diane later received a call that the other car belonged to Nia.

“We hit it off and now we’re talking about having dinner. She wasn’t upset at all. What are the chances?” Diane said. They even ran into each other the next day at a coffee shop. “This time we ran into each other… I love smashes — just not car smashes.”

Diane is a Grammy winner with 15 nominations to her name and she also has 11 Oscar nominations for Best Original Song, including one this year for “I’m Standing With You” from Breakthrough.
