Atlanta's Zazie Beetz Reveals the Roles She'd Like to Play

Atlanta and Deadpool 2 star Zazie Beetz is looking stunning for Interview magazine’s June/July issue featuring rising stars, where she was interviewed by her co-star Donald Glover.

Here’s what the 26-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On if she feels pressure as a black woman to represent something bigger: “Yeah, I do. I was talking to my mom the other day and she said, ‘White people in the industry don’t realize that actors of color need to appeal to white people while also not becoming the black celebrity that black people don’t like.’ If you’re not black, you don’t have to think about that.”

On roles she wants to play: “One day I’d like to tackle a biopic. I grew up very influenced by Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone…I think I’m too light-skinned to play Nina Simone.”

On if she considers herself a hippie: “I feel like maybe you’ve had a similar thing, but recently I’ve realized that the body, the world, and the mind are all one thing. I’ve begun feeling that my responsibility is to the Earth. Our generation’s war is climate change, so I’ve really been modifying how I eat and what I eat.”

Stay tuned for all our coverage from the mag – there’s five cover stars including Timothée Chalamet, Bill Skarsgård, Mackenzie Davis, Tom Holland, and Zazie!

Donald Glover Secretly Met With Billy Dee Williams to Talk 'Star Wars'

Donald Glover is getting ready to play Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars young Han Solo flick so he went straight to the source to get filled in on the character.

The 33-year-old actor and musician secretly met up with the original Lando, Billy Dee Williams, to talk about the role before he began shooting.

“He had questions about [Lando]. I guess he was doing what normal actors do, they just want to find out what direction they want to take so they gather their information. So, we just sat and talked, and I didn’t want to impose on anything he wanted to do — he’s got his own ideas, I would imagine…He’s a very talented young man,” Billy Dee told THR.

He added, “Donald is eclectic, I think that’s really important particularly for the character of Lando. He is particularly eclectic in the way he approaches his art.”

Although Donald will now be taking on the role, Billy Dee added that he is open to appearing in future Star Wars films, as he will always identify with the character.

“To me, I guess what it is that I identify so much with Lando. I mean, Lando has been very much a part of my life for over 30 years…I just never thought of anybody else being Lando. I just see myself as Lando,” he said.

On Bernie Mac and Dave Chappelle being his inspiration for Atlanta: “Those shows were so honest and so true. Bernie Mac had a sister who was a crack addict on the show. It wasn’t funny, but it was real.”

On his experimental album release event and the absence of social media: “Today, kids’ idea of going to a concert is proving that they are there on Snapchat or Instagram. We wanted to give them a complete show and have their attention.”
