Cameron Diaz is reportedly in final negotiations to join the cast of Ridley Scott‘s new film The Counselor.

The 39-year-old actress would star opposite Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, and Penelope Cruz playing a character named Malkina, Deadline reports.

Michael Fassbender will be taking on the title role of “a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe into the drug business without getting sucked down, which proves to be a life threatening decision.”

“The project has been described to me as No Country For Old Men on steroids,” the website adds.

Penelope Cruz is in talks to co-star with hubby Javier Bardem in Ridley Scott‘s new film, The Counselor.

The film “centers on an attorney (Michael Fassbender), a good man in need of money, who decides to dabble in the cocaine trade. He teams up with a rich acquaintance (Bardem) for a new business that also brings in a shady type (Brad Pitt). Things don’t go as planned, in what is described as a dialogue-heavy, violent and racy script,” THR reports.

No official offers have been made to Penelope, but if the deal goes through, she will be playing Michael’s love interest.

Brad‘s fiancee Angelina Jolie was also considered for the part of the love interest, but it remains unclear if this will conflict with her filming schedule for Maleficent.

“Maybe I’ll make one movie a year, maybe two, but it’s not going to be more than that because I have other priorities now,” Penelope told Harper’s Bazaar‘s May issue about juggling her career and motherhood.

To Rome With Love will be kicking off this year’s Los Angeles Film Festival, according to THR!

“I can’t think of a better way to kick off this year’s festival than with the original independent filmmaker himself, Woody Allen,” festival director Stephanie Allain said. “It’s a true honor for Los Angeles to host the North American premiere of To Rome With Love.”

On her idol, Meryl Streep: “When I first started watching movies and I saw Meryl’s work, that’s when I became obsessed with acting. Now I kiss her whenever I see her! She must think I’m crazy.”

On recalling a magazine shoot she had to do with Meryl a few years ago for the AIDS charity (RED): “As soon as she got to the set, I had to sit topless on top of her. It was the most interesting love scene I’ve ever done.”

On how she characterizes herself: “[I'm a] worrier. I am living for every day and trying to have less fear, less worry. But I have always worried about everything; it’s in my nature. It’s the thing that makes me suffer the most.”
