Idris Elba Responds to Bond Author's 'Too Street' Comments

Idris Elba has responded to the comments made by James Bond author Anthony Horowitz about the actor being “too street” to play the iconic role.

“[He] is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond,” the author said before taking back his comments with an apology statement.

Idris took to his Instagram account to post a positive message after the news went viral.

“Always Keep Smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street!! 😏 #septemberstillloveyou,” Idris captioned the below photo.

'007' Author Anthony Horowitz Apologizes For Calling Idris Elba 'Too Street' to Play Bond

007 author Anthony Horowitz has taken to Twitter to apologize about his comments concerning Idris Elba being “too street” to play James Bond.

“I’m really sorry my comments about Idris Elba have caused offense,” he wrote. “That wasn’t my intention. I was asked in my interview if Idris Elba would make a good James Bond. In the article I expressed the opinion that to my mind Adrian Lester would be a better choice, but I’m a writer, not a casting director, so what do I know? Clumsily, I chose the word ‘street’ as Elba’s gritty portrayal of DCI John Luther was in my mind, but I admit it was a poor choice of word. I am mortified to have caused offense,” Anthony wrote on his Twitter account.

Idris is certainly a fan-favorite to take over the role of the iconic British spy, and we would love to see him in the part!

007 Author Thinks Idris Elba Is 'Too Street' to Play James Bond

Idris Elba is apparently “too street” to play James Bond, this according to the author of the next 007 novel Anthony Horowitz.

The 42-year-old British actor’s name has been thrown out there as a possible James Bond replacement for Daniel Craig when he passes the baton.

“For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah,” Anthony told the Daily Mail. “Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better.”

Idris Elba Is Maxim's First Solo Male Cover Star!

Idris Elba looks super suave and sexy on the cover of Maxim‘s September 2015 issue, on newsstands now.

The 42-year-old Beasts of No Nation actor is making history as the first man to ever cover the magazine alone. Here is what he had to share:

On the Bond rumors: “If I were the Bond producers and everyone was pointing me toward one actor, what’s the surprise in that? Honestly, it’s one of those things that if it should happen, it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy; it would be the will of a nation.”

On the death of his The Wire character Stringer Bell: “David Simon called me and said the character was coming to an end. And at first, I was definitely like, Why? But it was at the pinnacle of my character’s popularity. In hindsight, it was absolutely the best thing for me and my career to be able to move on. It catapulted the next stage of my career into megadrive.”

On music: “I would spend hours in there making songs, thinking no one’s ever gonna listen to this stuff. I’m just a guy that’s in The Wire. But I certainly put it all out there.

On breaking the British land-speed record: “I just like the velocity, and I guess I’m slightly addicted to the risk of it.”
