Brandi Carlile Came Out at 14 Thanks to Ellen DeGeneres

Brandi Carlile is opening up about her coming out story in a new interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which aired on Thursday (February 14).

The 37-year-old singer-songwriter, who is married to Catherine Shepherd, told Ellen that she came out at age 14 thanks to the talk show host.

Brandi talked about her Grammys acceptance speech, in which she talked about coming out at a young age.

“I basically just outlined that I came out of the closet when I was 14 years old … because of you,” she said. “I never attended any parties and was never invited to a dance or anything like that. I basically said that to be embraced by such a loving and enduring community was the dance of a lifetime.”

Brandi also performed her song “The Joke” on the show.

Brandi Carlile brings the crowd to their feet with her moving performance of “The Joke” at the 2019 Grammy Awards.

The 37-year-old singer took the stage at the event held on Sunday (February 10) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

She rocked a dazzling black and silver jacket as she strummed along on her guitar to her By The Way, I Forgive You track, with the lyrics scribbled across the screen behind her.

“The Joke” also won for Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song, and By The Way, I Forgive You won for Best Americana Album.

Additionally, Brandi received nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year for the track, as well as Album of the Year.

The By The Way, I Forgive You singer-songwriter and her wife posed for pictures together on the red carpet at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 10) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Brandi‘s “The Joke” is nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The song has already won for Best American Roots Performance, as well as Best American Roots Song. By The Way, I Forgive You is nominated for Album of the Year. It has already won Best Americana Album.

The show will be hosted this year by 15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys. Make sure to tune in at 8pm ET/5pm PT on CBS!

Janelle Monae teamed up with Instagram for an inspiring morning!

The 33-year-old musician helped host the Fem The Future brunch on Friday (February 8) at Ysabel in Los Angeles.

'Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul' Performers & Host Revealed!

Aretha Franklin is getting a superstar tribute!

The late Queen of Soul will be honored by CBS, the Recording Academy, AEG Ehrlich Ventures and Clive Davis with Aretha! A GRAMMY Celebration for the Queen of Soul.

The special will include performances from Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, Alessia Cara, Kelly Clarkson, Common, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Patti LaBelle, BeBe Winans, Brandi Carlile, Chloe X Halle, H.E.R., Janelle Monáe and SZA.

Tyler Perry will host the night, with more performances to be announced in the coming weeks.
